FlashCard Importer

How to create a CSV file

  1. Open up your favorite spreadsheet program.

Virtually any spreadsheet program can be used such as Google Docs , Numbers , OpenOffice , Excel

  2. Create your data

The first row should be the front side text, and the second row should be the back side text

  3. Export to CSV

NEW!! Now supports Excel (.xls and .xlsx) and OpenOffice (.ods) documents. If you have problems with csv, trying saving to one of these formats!

Save-as or export the file to a CSV format.

  4. Upload CSV file here

Uplaod the CSV file here. After the upload you should see a table with your data.

You should get a url to enter on your iPod/iPhone, e-mail this to yourself or write it down.

How to import data into the application

  1. E-mail or write down the link

The link should start with r5flashcardimport:// followed by a number

  2. Click on the link or type it into Safari

If you e-mailed yourself the link just click on it and the application will launch.

If you wrote it down type the link into Safari and the application should launch.

  3. Create or navigate to the cardset

If you are adding the cards to an existing cardset navigate to it, otherwise create a new cardset.

  4. Add cards

Go to the card list for the cardset. Click the add button in the lower right. A dialog will ask you if you want to create a new card or import cards. Select import and you should see your cards added

  5. ...

  6. Profit!

Think of all the work you saved your thumbs entering the data on a computer instead of online! Cardsets won't stay online forever (at least not now... hint hint...) so be sure to back up your CSV files if you want to add them again. Also be warned that anyone can see your data online, they won't be able to find it easily, but there's nothing preventing from guessing your cardset id so don't put anything too personal up there for now.

Coming soon you'll be able to create cards directly on this site if you don't want to mess around with a spreadsheet program, and in the 2.0 release of the application the app will be more tightly linked to this site. Soon you'll be able to submit a cardset to be public, search public card sets, and a whole bunch of other cool things. As always let me know at support@red5dev.com any suggestions, I try to do as much as I can but you guys have been a great help with ideas for the application, it wouldn't be what it is without you!
